Los Angeles Architecture Tour

North Carolina Modernist Houses Los Angeles Architecture Tour

We started over in Silverlake neighborhood again, touring another Lautner home, Silvertop (an interesting history of how Silvertop came to be).   Our plan was to tour here, then return to Neutra Colony to see Neutra’s personal home then on to the Getty, but then we received a surprising call.   But first, Silvertop (no photos allowed inside)…

And then came the call.   Our fearless leader, George, had been in contact with actress Kelly Lynch about a tour of her modernist home, but she had not received her emails until today.   She graciously called and extended an immediate invitation.   It would delay our visit to the Getty Center, but oh well, let’s visit our third Lautner instead…yes indeed…

Our gracious hosts, Kelly Lynch and husband, Mitch Glazer, shared with us the history of this 1950 Lautner home commissioned by first homeowner, Leo Harvey.  Lynch and Glazer have done a thoughtful restoration of this home, regaling us with stories of the many details involved in such an effort (not to mention cash).  They are a lovely couple and we were all immediately smitten with them and their obvious affection for one another.   A beautiful, and seemingly atypical, Hollywood love affair of both heart and home…

As our hosts pointed out, it is a constant project (read: money pit) with future plans for a restored kitchen area.   I have ultimate respect for these folks, having gone through painful renovations myself, but not quite on this scale 😉   Kelly and Mitch opened their home to us, knowing that we share their love of modernist architecture and preservation of such properties.  We are lucky that they recognize the genius of Lautner and others and are willing to preserve this property for future generations. Follow more of my LA adventures here.
